Today, Sr Georgeanne Marie delivered the opening message and then declared open the Xth General Chapter of the Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary.
The opening Mass was celebrated by Fr John Hannan, Superior General of the Marist Fathers.
On this the Third Sunday of Lent we chose the readings for Year A and so had the Gospel which speaks of Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman.
A symbolic well was erected in the chapel. The symbols of the well, the living water and the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman inspired us profoundly throughout this opening day.
Our facilitator Sr Christine Anderson, fcj, and Fr Jim Christie sj, consultant, joined the Chapter.
Later in the day each sister after responding to a “roll call” received from the “well”a white scarf with the logo of the Chapter. With this symbolic gesture, each sister was invited to officially assume her role as CAPITULANT and no longer delegate of a region.
At the conclusion of the prayer, each sister was asked to ponder and write the gift she would leave at the well during this chapter.
