The Opening Mass of our General Chapter

The Opening Mass of our General Chapter this morning was a very moving experience. The chapel of the Cappuccine Sisters was filled with songs of joy accompanied by the harmonious sound of guitars.

At the beginning of the Mass, the sisters from each Province came forward carrying different symbols representing the theme of the Chapter. Each explained their symbol and placed it in front of the altar as a sign of offering. All of the smsm throughout the world were at the heart of our prayer.

During the prayers of intercession we were also united with and read out all the names of the sisters who have returned to God, the sisters who had made their first profession and those who had left the Congregation during the seven years since the last Chapter.

We have begun our Chapter on this day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Is it a sign of the ‘suffering’ that may perhaps accompany our days but also of the life that will come forth?

We rely on your prayer that the Holy Spirit will prepare our hearts and fill them with gifts.
