"To believe, to hope and to persevere in the context of today"
This very enlightening theme was developed each day by the different speakers who were actually the Bishops themselves who had come with the youth of their dioceses.
Just by looking at the faces of the participants one could see a listening and a special attention to the teachings that were both touching and instructive. Following this were long times of questions and answers that produced a rich discussion.
After each teaching session, the Eucharist was celebrated in different sites prepared to welcome this mass of young people coming by delegation from all directions of Africa (Gambia, Guinée Bissao, Mauritania etc. …). After being nourished spiritually, all converged on the stalls to strengthen their bodies with the wonderful meals provided by the women of Thiès.
One of the special times was the carnival where each delegation demonstrated and traced a little of their history using dance, song and costume. What experience of JOY and BEAUTY!!!!
The evening concluded with a vigil of prayer ...
Sunday was the main day with the closing Mass in the main stadium…. Despite the unsupportable heat of Thiès, it was surprising to see the number of people there, especially the young people. In his homily, the cardinal spoke of the role of each in our world of today. As a Christian, what is my role in this Senegal where so much injustice and corruption ravage our everyday lives in social, political, economic and other different spheres?
Around 2 pm all was over and the streets of Thiès emptied little by little of their guests who gave themselves a rendez-vous for KAOLAC in 2012 ! INSHALA !
