Six SMSM joined Theresa Waine in her home parish of Koge, Chimbu Province, Papua New Guinea, for her final vows on Friday 23rd January 2009. On the previous evening, we had joined the local community for a traditional ceremony for when a young woman is sent out from the clan. The mothers sang songs in the local language to tell Theresa how she is to behave and three people also gave speeches.
During the Mass, Theresa was brought in wearing traditional dress and a magnificent head-dress and was presented to the congregation by her parents. This was a great contrast to the simple blue outfit that Theresa changed into for the rest of the Mass.
