Celebrating 150 years of the arrival of the Pioneers in New Caledonia

SMSM Sisters

In New Caledonia, the celebration of 150 years since the arrival of the first sisters (Marie de Bon Secours, Marie de la Croix and Marie de la Paix) has met with a great response. A group of SMSM and PFM met together to plan the festivities. On 31 March, feast of the Annunciation, the opening Mass was held at La Conception where the sisters first landed. Sr Marie Cécile de Mijolla fascinated her audience of about fifty people on 21 May with her presentation of the story of the three sisters. It was the turn of the people of the Ile des Pins on 12 July to pay tribute to Sr Marie de la Paix who lived and died there.SMSM Sisters

The two communities of Mont-Mou organised a gathering on Sunday 3 August with a display on our history, a conference given by Sr Marie Cécile de Mijolla and Mass celebrated by Bishop Michel Marie Calvet. A meal was shared and followed by dances and sketches.
