July 8 was a day of celebration and joy among the SMSM of Auckland. Many of us were there to be with Sr Valelia MAVAETAU on the day of her First Profession as a Religious. The presence of three Bishops and numerous Priests made the Ceremony solemn, simple, prayerful and reverent.
We experienced times of great emotion during the celebration. The father of Sr Valelia took part in the procession of the Lectionary and her mother placed a garland of flowers around the Book. The Samoan choir led the singing with much talent and solemnity.
The most moving time was when Sr Valelia pronounced her vows in the presence of Sr Josephine, Provincial, who represented Sr Judith our Congregational Leader, members of her family, the SMSM Sisters and a big crowd. Following this, the Mass continued in an atmosphere of deep prayerfulness. After the celebration we were invited to the Parish hall for refreshments and further sharing.
Yes, a day of celebration and joy. We give thanks to the Lord and we confide Sr Valelia to the Virgin Mary, our First and Perpetual Superior. MAGNIFICAT.
